Q&A

IS YMCA EARTH SERVICE CORPS (YESC) COOL?
Ask for our references or join us to find out for yourself. The YESC way of life is mature and incredible, fantastic and phenomenal. Over and over teenagers tell us that the friendships, activities, goals and motivations everyone shares on YESC are crystal clear. Our goal is that after just a short time with YESC, your YESC experience will become the best decision of your life.
WHAT ARE THE RULES?
YESC rules are the foundation of a safe, healthy and enjoyable summer. Participants unable to abide by these rules should not enroll. Breaking these rules will result in dismissal without refund. A “Behavioral Expectation” form is included in the registration packet.
  • Tobacco, alcohol, drugs, weapons and sex are prohibited.

  • YESC reserves the right to search for illegal substances.

  • Behavior detrimental to the safety or enjoyment of the experiencewill not be tolerated.
  • We expect a positive attitude and your participation should be enthusiastic.
  • All participants require and should expect essentially equal attention.
  • WHAT EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?
All you need is a willingness to try and the desire to make friends. You should speak with one of our office leaders to match your readiness and age with the right program. We encourage you to expect a lot of YESC and your leaders because we are going to expect a lot from you!
DO I NEED TO GET IN SHAPE?
The challenges of YESC can be demanding. We recommend regular aerobic exercise for at least a few weeks before taking any of our trips. Walking, jogging, swimming or riding a bike are all good ways to increase your fitness, so you can get the most out of your YESC experience.
    WHAT ABOUT SPENDING MONEY?
You should bring $75-$100 for the week. This will cover gifts, film, personal items and impulse purchases. We recommend you bring cash or an ATM card.
    WILL I NEED A PHYSICAL?
Contact your family physician for the most up-to-date health information to make sure you are ready for the trip.
DO YOU EVER CHANGE TRIP ITINERARIES?
Yes we do; trip highlights are a broad outline, not a precise description. But any changes made will be clearly communicated with you and your family and will only be made in the interest of safety or a more successful trip.
    WHAT ARE THE SAFETY STANDARDS?
All of our YESC staff has completed first aid/CPR, emergency procedures and vehicle safety trainings. Each has vast experience in the field teaching YESC programs under varying weather conditions and environments. In addition, each staff member has also undergone criminal and child abuse clearance checks.
HOW DO I KEEP IN TOUCH WITH MY FAMILY?
Your family will know when you arrive in your destination because you are required to call your family within two hours of arrival using a calling card or your personal cell phone. You are then encouraged to call home only as needed so you can concentrate on your YESC experience and bonding with your new friends. Of course we will immediately contact your family in any sort of emergency; but no news is good news in our book.
WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT DO YOU ACCEPT?
For payment instructions Contact Brian Raicich for more information and to register: brian.raicich@umly.org and 610-647-9622, ext. 2404.
    MEDICAL+INSURANCE COVERAGE?
All participants are required to carry personal medical insurance. Check your carrier to be sure if coverage is in effect while on vacation. Medical or dental treatment will be accessed in a reasonable amount of time at the nearest facility. Payment for treatment or emergency transport is the responsibility of your insurance company or family.
    DO YOU OFFER SCHOLARSHIPS?
Our Y-Cares program allows participants from every type of background to enjoy YESC. Contact our Welcome Center for a financial aid application.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE TRIP FEE?
Accommodations, activities, transportation during the trip, roundtrip airfare, meals. You should be able to fully participate without any additional expense.
    WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED?
Meals on air travel days, souvenirs.
WHAT IF MY FAMILY NEEDS TO CONTACT ME?
Our host, YMCA of the Rockies – Estes Park Center, will contact our YESC staff in the event they receive a call from one of our families. Their main number is (970) 586-3341.
