Emergency Services Day Held at Upper Main Line YMCA
Berwyn, PA — More than 300 summer campers at the Upper
Main Line YMCA in Berwyn got an up-close look at emergency services
equipment at the 4th Annual UMLY Emergency Services Day. The
Paoli and Berwyn Fire Companies presented the event on Thursday,
August 10.
The children were treated to a vehicle rescue demonstration,
two helicopter landings, police and fire vehicle tours, plus
hands-on use of some of the equipment.
Eamon Brazanus, a Berwyn Fire Company lieutenant and a former
Y camp counselor organized this year’s event. “This
event really helps us connect with children.” Brazanus
said. It took three months to pull this together. More than thirty
volunteers from 13 agencies participated.
Brian Raicich is the YMCA Director of Day Camps. “Each
year this emergency services demonstration gives our campers
the opportunity to get an up-close look at real fire and rescue
equipment. They get to ask questions and learn from their experience.”
Participating agencies included the Paoli Fire Co., Berwyn Fire
Co., Malvern Fire Co., East Whiteland Fire Co., King of Prussia
Fire Co., Valley Forge Fire Co., PENNSTAR Aeromedical, JEFFSTAT
Aeromedical, Chester County Communications Unit, Chester County
Haz-Mat Team, Easttown Twp. Police Dept. and Tredyffrin Twp.
