YMCA OF THE UPPER MAIN LINE HOLDS 44 TH ANNUAL MEETING
Malvern, PA – December 6, 2005, the YMCA of the Upper Main Line disclosed its 2004-05 financial report at the 44 th Annual Meeting held at the Safeguard Scientifics Building, Penn State Great Valley on Swedesford Road.
The program featured colors presented by area Boy Scout Troops with the Bishop Shanahan Men’s Chorale performing the National Anthem. The YMCA presented awards to its many volunteers for their dedication in Spirit, Mind and Body. Representatives of area Boy and Girl Scouts were recognized for their Eagle Scout and Girl Scout Silver Star projects. For the first time, the Y presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award to 92 deserving youth and adults. The award recognizes the best in American spirit, and to encourage all Americans to improve their communities through volunteer service, and civic participation.

The highlight of the event was a the presentation of the inaugural Sparky Award to John Nash and Betty Moran, Honorary Chairs of the Capital Campaign for the Upper Main Line YMCA Branch. Mr. Nash and Mrs. Moran contributed countless hours on behalf of the renovation and expansion of the Y. Sparky is a 6-year-old common snapping turtle that resides at the YMCA’s Environmental Education center. To date, nearly $3.8M of the $4M goal has been raised. Construction on a new $10M, 3-story addition and renovation is slated to begin in the spring of 2006.
With branches at each end of the Conestoga Trail, the YMCA of the Upper Main Line has been serving the community with programs and services to build strong kids, strong families and strong communities since 1962.
