Run for the Roses …a
runaway success
A spectacular evening for a worthwhile cause raised more than
$150,000 for the YMCA. On Friday, April 27, more than 400 attended
UMLY’s first signature Spring Fling fundraising event -
Run for the Roses, a Kentucky Derby themed party held at Mrs.
J. Maxwell Moran’s Brushwood Stable, Bryn Clovis Annex
in Malvern.
Guests included YMCA board of directors, members, staff and
community friends. Decked out in derby attire, guests enjoyed
elegantly catered hors d’oeuvres and wok and carving stations
from Nectar. Sweet Jazmines of Berwyn provided mouth watering
desserts and Starbucks of Paoli donated coffee.
Channel 10’s John Clark greeted guests and shared a personal
story of his connection to UMLY’s Open Doors program. Tony
Deangelis’ Jazz Trio filled the party tent with welcoming
music.
Highlights of the evening included a live and silent auction,
which featured a “Hard Spun” embroidered hat. Bred
and raised at Brushwood Stables, Hard Spun finished second at
this year’s Kentucky Derby. Natasha Bolis of Berwyn won
the best hat contest judged for originality, creativity and elegance
by Wayne Milliner and Jen McGowan.
Proceeds from Run for the Roses help to supplement UMLY’s
Y-Cares program for families and individuals who need financial
assistance for membership or to participate in programs like
summer camp and preschool.
The YMCA thanks all who attended our first Spring Fling event
and the Financial Development Committee, members of the boards,
sponsors and everyone who generously donated auction items. Through
your support, the event was a Runaway Success!
