YMCA SWIMMERS MAKE BIG SPLASH AT NATIONALS
Fort Lauderdale, FL – Evan
Reed set a National YMCA record in the 100 Freestyle to lead
the Upper Main Line YMCA Men to a 5th place finish at the 2008
National YMCA Short Course Swimming and Diving Championships
held April 1-4 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
The UMLY Women placed 23rd thanks to Anna Munger’s 9th
place in the 50 and 11th place in the 100 Freestyle. Munger
teamed up with Kate Durkan, Jenny Dalmonte and Sophia Graesser
for 10th and 11th places in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
Lionville Community YMCA’s Matt Salig swam to a 10th
and 11th place finish in the 200 Individual Medley and the 200
Butterfly.
UMLY’s Megan Happ earned top 20 honors in the distance
events placing 18th in the 500 Freestyle, 20th in 1000 Free
and 13th in the 1650.
The four-day meet brought out top performances. UMLY Head Coach
Glenn Neufeld said his athletes swam personal best times in 80
percent of their races. UMLY sent 17 swimmers while the Lionville
Community YMCA sent four.
